Your Role

  • As a Principal, you will work alongside the Manager of Projects (primarily) and other business units to meet or exceed the organisation’s objectives
  • You will personally direct, lead, support, and challenge project teams, working on a wide variety of interesting and complex projects
  • You will ensure the planning and execution of project deliverables whilst managing resources, approved budgets, and timeframes constraints
  • You will provide mentoring to the other members of the Orion team
  • You will drive the strategic, commercial, and continued growth of the business

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to the Orion vision
  • With the Manager of Projects, take a leadership role in the coordination and management of the design team resources to meet project and client milestones.
  • Actively create and capitalise on new business opportunities.
  • Preparation of tenders and fee proposals for new projects, and project variations that may span multiple disciplines both within and external to Orion.
  • Detailed oversight of design operations to ensure the responsiveness of the design staff to clients, project managers, and authorities is maintained at a very high level.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving design issues.
  • Regular and friendly interaction with clients
  • Plan, execute, and finalise projects according to deadlines
  • Manage project reporting, budgets, forecasting, and invoicing
  • Liaise with authorities and utility agencies
  • Drive the implementation of good practice, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to support the ongoing success of the business.
  • Assist with growing and developing the company and its engineering standards to help provide unique and modern design methodologies to be adopted by the company

Skills and Expertise

  • Minimum 15+ years industry experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification including Chartered Engineering (CPEng) status
  • Membership of relevant association(s) (e.g. MIEAust)
  • Extensive understanding of the development industry, project and program management principles, methods, and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability in leading complex projects
  • Strong relationships within the industry
  • Advanced technical and commercial acumen
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Ensure delivery of high-standard documentation through the OCE QA review process.
  • Ensure company and client deadlines, commitments, and expectations are met.
  • Ensure business development opportunities are capitalised on.
  • Maintenance of strong, enduring, and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Commitment to the professional development of peers within the Orion Consulting business
  • Engagement in the ongoing review and improvements to the Orion Consulting business processes to identify opportunities for efficiencies or value-add to either Orion Consulting or its Clients
  • Demonstrable commitment to the positive culture within the Orion Consulting business and the promotion of Orion Consulting as a consultant and employer of choice.
