Your Role

  • As UAV & Digital Lead you will be responsible for developing and integrating innovative and market leading UAV and digital technology into Orion’s day to day operations. You will also be responsible for defining and implementing a strategy to achieve positive commercial returns for the business unit, and to establish Orion as a leader in the capture, validation, interpretation, and utilisation of [digital] data as a high value asset.

Responsibilities

  • As Unit Lead, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of both strategic and project specific activities, resources, and budgets.
  • To ensure that Orion, and all its UAV pilots obtain, and maintain appropriate CASA accreditation (ReOC, RePL, AROC, or other as required).
  • To enhance and actively promote Orion’s capability in data visualisation from point cloud viewing and photogrammetry, through to augmented (AR) and virtual (VR) reality.
  • To work with our AI and R&D teams to create a digital database of physical assets, and to realise its value with respect to real time decision making, innovation, industry leadership and commercial application.
  • Learn, adopt, and leverage data science best practice to deliver quantitative improvements to the analytics and process modelling functions.
  • Investigate, initiate, and administer a Digital Twin platform to store and consume data generated through field surveys, drone surveys, and design.
  • To work collaboratively with the broader Orion Group to assess the current BAU practices to identify and implement opportunities for smart solutions, improved efficiency, and positive return on investment.
  • To engage with Orion’s client base to identify opportunities for the use of digital technology to drive positive time, quality, cost, and safety outcomes across their projects.
  • To actively identify and investigate opportunities to disrupt the current business-as-usual (BAU).
  • Ensure status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks, and issues, is communicated to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and control project outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Business development and liaison with Orion’s clients and demonstrative leadership in relation to future opportunities.
  • Preparation of fee proposals for new projects that may span multiple disciplines both within and external to Orion Consulting.
  • Drive the implementation of good practice, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to support the ongoing success of the business.
  • Adoption, promotion adherence to the Orion Consulting’s Integrated Management System (IMS).

Skills and Expertise

  • Computer / Data Science or equivalent qualifications desirable or exposure to projects and nanodegrees in the data & innovation fields.
  • CASA RePL Licence (Desirable; training will be provided if not currently held).
  • 5+ Years Industry Experience
  • Analytical approach and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Focus on practicality of solutions over complexity for the sake of complexity.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current industry practices and trends.
  • Curiosity to expand the horizons of digital applications within the consulting industry.
  • Ability to identify and realise the commercial application of digital technology and data capture.
